Markets plunge as trade war escalates and people stocking up before tariffs impact prices

Over the past two days, more than $5 trillion of wealth has been erased from the U.S. stock market as investors react to the tariffs announced by President Trump. China’s retaliatory move today sent markets sliding. And from cars to coffee beans, across the country people and businesses are rushing to make major purchases they were considering or stocking up on staples, trying to lock in prices before tariffs have an effect.
