Concern of mudslides after wildfires and CA’s insurer of last resort face potential shortfalls
There was growing concern about mudslides in fire-charred areas of Southern California. Many residents were still under evacuation orders. Meanwhile, FAIR Plan, the California insurer of last resort, faces potential shortfalls as those who suffered losses in the wildfires file claims. Based on a September bulletin issued by the state’s Insurance Commissioner, FAIR Plan policyholders may have to help pay for some of the losses beyond what the plan can cover. A high school science teacher came up with an innovative solution using a small engine that taps water from people’s pools. It could help save homes from future wildfires.
