The Astronomical Society of Eastern Missouri (ASEM) is the primary outreach activity of the Alliance for Astronomy, Inc (AfA) which is a Missouri non-profit corporation organized for the public benefit with the mission to promote awareness, appreciation and education in astronomy and related sciences.

Volunteers with ASEM conduct several meetings and activities every month which are free and open to the public. Among these are:
General Membership meeting on the second Saturday of each month from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. These meetings provide a forum for socializing with like-minded people with interests in astronomy, feature a pot-luck supper, programs ranging from quite basic to somewhat advanced. A Beginners meeting on the first Thursday of each month from 7:00 to 9:00 pm focuses on beginners and addresses whatever questions or topics requested by those attending. Absolutely NO question is considered too “dumb” to address. With current Covid restrictions meetings are virtual via Zoom. See Meeting Page for more information.
Special Interest Groups (SIGs) also conduct monthly meetings.
The Digital Imaging SIG meeting on the third Thursday of the each month from 7:00 until ? focuses on astrophotography and features advanced help for beginners in this exciting topic . With current Covid restrictions meetings are virtual via Zoom. See Meeting Page for more information.
The Do It Yourself (DIY) SIG meeting on the fourth Wednesday of each month focuses on telescope and other projects built and assembled by members. With current Covid restrictions meetings are virtual via Zoom. See Meeting Page for more information.
Friday Night Open House (FNOH) at the Broemmelsiek Park Astronomy Area where the club maintains three large telescopes (14-in, 16-in and 32-in) plus any number of smaller instruments for public viewing. These events are every Friday night – weather permitting – and start at the later of 7:00 pm (Winter) or Sunset (Spring and Summer) and usually last for 2 hours or so.
