Dhaka – Legendary payback singer Andrew Kishore has been died of cancer. He was 65.
Kishore, famous for singing playback for hundred Bangla movie songs, breathed his last a private hospital in the northern city of Rajshahi on Monday, family sources said.
The funeral services of the playback maestro will be organized after his children comes from Australia in a few days. The body will be kept at the mortuary of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital until they arrive, Dr Patrik Bipul Biswas, brother-in-law of the late singer, said.
President Abdul Hamid expressed shock at the death of the prolific singer.
Kishore, who won National Film Award for eight times for his contribution, had been suffering from lymphoma (blood cancer) for long time. He was undergoing treatment at hospital owned by his sister Dr Shikha Biswas in his hometown Rajshahi.
Andrew Kishore He returned home by a special flight on June 11 from Singapore, where he was being treated for his ailment for nine months.
The singer was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a cancer that originates in the Lymphatic system, along with kidney and hormone related disease in September last year.
Kishore voiced in movie songs which became notable included “Jiboner Golpo Achhe Baki Olpo”, “Dak Diyachhen Doyal Amare”, “Haire Manush Rongin Fanush”, “Amar Shara Deho Kheyo Go Mati”, “Amar Buker Moddhe Khane Mon Jekhane Ridoy Jekhane …”, “Amar Babar Mukhe Prothom Jedin Shunechilam Gan”, “Bhengeche Pinjor Meleche Dana”, and “Shobai To Bhalobasha Chaey”.
The singer won Bangladesh National Film Award in best male playback singer category for the films Boro Bhalo Lok Chhilo (1982), Surrender (1987), Khotipuron (1989), Padma Meghna Jamuna (1991), Kabul (1996), Aaj Gaye Holud (2000), Saajghor (2007) and Ki Jadu Korila (2008).
Born on November 4 in 1955, Kishore started music lessons at the age of six. He studied in Rajshahi University.
He was an enlisted singer in the radio in Nazrul, Tagore, modern, folk and patriotic song categories after Bangladesh’s liberation in 1971. His journey in Dhaka’s radio began through participation of a talent hunt programme in 1977.
Kishore debuted in playback singing in the film Mail Train (1977) where he sang Ochinpurer Rajkumari Nei Je Tar Keu, composed by Saley Alam Khan.
Kishore worked in his Probaho Media, a production house, which produces television plays, commercials and other productions.
Kishore was married to Lipika Andrew Eti and together they have a daughter, Minim Andrew Songa, and a son, Jay Andrew Saptok.
