Water company properties among Milford-area real estate transfers for Dec. 23, 2021

This week’s real estate transfers include nine parcels transferred from Milford Water Co. to the town of Milford related to the town’s purchase of the water company.

On Aug. 2, Town Meeting voted to buy the private water company after many years of trying to buy it.

The purchase needed two-thirds approval from the August Town Meeting. The final tally was 145 “yes” votes to the 14 “no” votes.

Town officials previously said they plan to use $6.5 million in federal COVID relief money, as well as take advantage of what Finance Committee member Christopher Morin called “a perfect storm” of good financial circumstances. The plan is for the water system to operate on an enterprise fund, meaning it will pay for itself, without using money from the general fund or other departments.
