Andrew Kishor`s body won’t be brought to Dhaka

Legendary singer Andrew Kishore died this evening after a 10-month long battle with cancer. He was 64. Fans are pouring condolence in his death at home and abroad. Andrew Kishore’s family has said that the body of the national award-wining singer will not be brought to Dhaka.

According to Andrew Kishore’s family, Andrew Kishore died at his sister’s clinic in Rajshahi at 6.55 pm. Now his body has been kept in the cold storage of a hospital in Rajshahi. Considering the coronavirus situation, the family has decided not to bring his body to Dhaka.

Andrew Kishore returned to the country on a special flight on June 11 after undergoing treatment in Singapore for 9 consecutive months. Since then, he had been living in Rajshahi, said Dr. Patrick Bipul Biswas, brother-in-law of the late singer.

Earlier, the singer was taken to Singapore on September 9 last year for better treatment due to various complications in his body. After various tests, he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a blood cancer on September 17. He then began treatment under Lim Sun Thai, a physician at the Singapore General Hospital.

Andrew spent his childhood and adolescence in Rajshahi. Andrew Kishore initially started studying music with Abdul Aziz Bachchu of Rajshahi. In 1977, Kishore came to Dhaka to participate in a talent hunt project initiated by Shahidul Islam, the then director of Transcription Service of Bangladesh Betar. At the program, he rendered the song Soheli O Soheli, composed by Debu Bhattacherjee.

Kishore debuted in playback singing in the film Mail Train (1977) where he sang Ochinpurer Rajkumari Nei Je Tar Keu, composed by Saley Alam Khan. Introduced by A.H.M. Rafique, Kishore made his breakthrough by the song Ek Chor Jay Choley from the film Protikkha, composed by Alam Khan.

Kishore works in his Probaho Media, a production house, which produces television plays, commercials and other productions.

His songs — ‘Jiboner Golpo Achhe Baki Olpo’, ‘Dak Diyachhen Doyal Amare’, ‘Haire Manush Rongin Fanush’, ‘Amar Shara Deho Kheyo Go Mati’, ‘Amar Buker Moddhe Khane’, ‘Amar Babar Mukhe Prothom Jedin Shunechilam Gan’, ‘Bhengeche Pinjor Meleche Dana’, ‘Shobai To Bhalobasha Chae’, and many others — will linger in the hearts of his fans.

In his music career, Andrew Kishore has won eight National Film Awards, five Bangladesh Film Journalists Association Awards, Meril Prothom Alo Award and many other awards at home and abroad. He left behind his wife Lipika Andrew and their two children.
