Naseeruddin Shah says Irrfan Khan knew death was approaching since two years
Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah has shared one of his conversations with Irrfan Khan, before he passed away in April 2020. While speaking to a news portal, Naseeruddin Shah stated that Irrfan knew about his demise since two years and that he was ‘observing death approaching him’.
While speaking about Irrfan Khan’s untimely demise, Naseeruddin Shah told Indianexpress, “That was a unique thing because Irrfan knew for about two years that it was going to happen. I spoke to him several times over the phone even when he was in the hospital in London. It was amazing and it was a real lesson how he dealt with it. He would say: ‘I am observing death approaching me and how many people get that opportunity? To be able to see this grim reaper coming towards you and you are almost welcoming him. Of course, it was a terrible loss. But it was not in our hands. It was just your bodily machinery shutting down. You don’t have any control over it.”
After battling neuroendocrine cancer for two years, the 56-year-old actor breathed his last on April 29, 2020. Post his demise, Irrfan Khan’s family had issued a heartwarming statement, “i trust, i have surrendered”; These were the some of the many words that Irrfan expressed in a heart felt note he wrote in 2018 opening up about his fight with cancer. And a man of few words and an actor of silent expressions with his deep eyes and his memorable actions on screen. It’s saddening that this day, we have to bring forward the news of him passing away. Irrfan was a strong soul, someone who fought till the very end and always inspired everyone who came close to him. After having been struck by lightning in 2018 with the news of a rare cancer, he took life soon after as it came and he fought the many battles that came with it. Surrounded by his love, his family for whom he most cared about, he left for heaven abode, leaving behind truly a legacy of his own. We all pray and hope that he is at peace. And to resonate and part with his words he had said, “As if I was tasting life for the first time, the magical side of it”.
