The Bangladesh Police will take strict action against anyone attempting to disrupt the country’s law and order situation ahead of the upcoming general elections, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) chief said today.
“The DMP’s capacity to control crime in the capital has been strengthened,” DMP Commissioner Khandker Golam Faruq said at the inauguration ceremony of installing CCTV cameras in Sabujbagh, Mugda and Khilgaon areas of the capital on Thursday (17 August).
Faruq called for increasing CCTV cameras under private initiatives to control crime.

In the event, the local MP handed over the responsibility of managing 413 CCTV cameras to the DMP.
Regarding violence following the death of war criminal Delwar Hossain Sayeedi, the DMP chief said, “An organisation has tried to disrupt the law and order situation. The police will do whatever it takes to keep the situation normal.”
Commissioner Faruq said the Dhaka metropolis is home to around two crore people and the police have to ensure security of the president, prime minister, parliament, secretariat, and the Bangladesh Bank along with foreign organisations situated here.
He said, “This is a big challenge for us. In addition to these challenges, this is also an election year. Many forces will enter the electoral field attempting to undermine law and order.
“If anyone tries to disrupt law and order around the election, the Bangladesh Police will suppress them with cooperation of the people.”
