Among the injured, Nurul Haque (19), who suffered bullet wounds, was admitted to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital.
Locals said there had been a longstanding dispute between former UP chairman and Awami League leader Ashraful Haque and newly-elected Bashangari UP chairman Zakir Hossain Ratul after a clash over union parishad election held on November 11.
Conflict was also going on between neighbouring Mirzarchar UP Chairman Zafar Iqbal Manik and the former chairman Farukul Islam over the UP election.
After the election defeat, supporters of Ashraful Haque of Banshgari and Farukul Islam of Mirzarchar were out of the village for about two and a half months, said locals.
This morning, a clash ensued when Ashraful’s supporters returned to Bashangari village and supporters of Zakir obstructed them.
At least five people, including Mamun and Nurul Haque, were injured in the clash, said locals, adding that Mamun died while undergoing treatment at Bhairab Upazila Health Complex in Kishoreganj around 5:30 pm.
Another clash took place between supporters of Fakhrul and Zafar in Mirzarchar Union when Farukul’s supporters tried to return to their village.
During the clash, Rubel Mia was killed in the spot, they said.
After receiving the news of the clash, Raipura police reached the remote area and brought the situation under control, said Saheb Ali Pathan, additional superintendent (crime) of Narsingdi Police.
He said they received information that two people were killed in the clashes.
