বুড়ো বয়সে কাঁপা কাঁপা গলায় গান গেয়ে বলতে চাই না ‘একদিন এন্ড্রু কিশোর ছিলাম রে’ এন্ড্রু কিশোর, প্লে-ব্যাক সম্রাট। এক সময় ঢাকাই ছবির গানে তার ছিল ব্যাপক আধিপত্য। গানের বাণী আর সুর তার কণ্ঠে তৈরি করত আলাদা এক বৈশিষ্ট্য। এর মূলে ছিল তার গায়কী।

এন্ড্রু কিশোর: আমার ছোটবেলা কেটেছে রাজশাহীর বুলনপুর মিশন কম্পাউন্ডে। তারপর মহিষবাথান হাসপাতাল কোয়ার্টার এবং সবশেষে কাজীরহাটা কোয়ার্টার। প্রাইমারি স্কুলে থাকতেই ভর্তি হই রাজশাহীর সুরবাণী সঙ্গীত বিদ্যালয়ে। ওখানেই ওস্তাদ আব্দুল আজিজ বাচ্চুর কাছে শিখি সঙ্গীতের নানা দিক। আমার ওস্তাদের প্রাতিষ্ঠানিক শিক্ষা সে অর্থে তেমন ছিল না। তবে তিনি কণ্ঠ নিয়ে চমৎকার স্টাডি করতেন। যে কারণে কার কণ্ঠে কোনো ধরনের গান মানাবে ভালো তা তিনি বেশ ভালো বুঝতেন। যা এ সময়ে এসেও অনেকে পারেন না। রাজশাহী শহরে যত ভালো ভালো শিল্পী আছেন সবই ওস্তাদজির ছাত্র।
যুগান্তর: রাজশাহী থেকে ঢাকায় আসার গল্প শুনতে চাই…
এন্ড্রু কিশোর: রাজশাহী বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় থেকেই আমি ১৯৭৬ সালে মাস্টার্স সম্পন্ন করি। ১৯৭৭ সালের দিকে রেডিওতে ট্রান্সমিশন সার্ভিসে খুব গুরুত্বপূর্ণ একটা পদে চাকরি করতেন এএইচএম রফিক। তিনি একদিন আমাকে ঢাকায় আসার কথা বললেন। ঠিক সে সময় শিল্পকলার মোহাম্মদ শহীদুল ইসলাম একটা প্ল্যান করলেন। প্ল্যানটা হল, মফস্বলে যারা প্রমিজিং মডার্ন সিঙ্গার তাদের ঢাকায় এনে স্টার মিউজিক ডিরেক্টর দিয়ে যদি গান করানো যায়, তাহলে হয়তো ভালো কিছু গানের জন্ম হতে পারে। ভালো কিছু শিল্পীরও জন্ম হতে পারে। এ ভাবনা থেকেই আমাকে ডাকা হল। আমি ঢাকায় এলাম। প্রথম সিনেমার গান করলাম।
যুগান্তর: শিবলী সাদিকের ‘মেইল ট্রেন’ ছবিতে আলম খানের সুরে প্রথম প্লে-ব্যাক করেছিলেন। কিন্তু সে ছবিটি মুক্তি পায়নি। ক্যারিয়ারের প্রথমেই ধাক্কা, কীভাবে সামলাচ্ছেন?
যুগান্তর: প্লে-ব্যাক সিঙ্গার হিসেবে মূলত কোন গানটি আপনাকে পরিচিতি এনে দিয়েছে?
এন্ড্রু কিশোর: প্লে-ব্যাক সিঙ্গার হিসেবে আলমগীর ভাইয়ের লিপে ‘এক চোর যায় চলে এ মন চুরি করে পিছে লেগেছে দারোগা’ গানটির মাধ্যমে দর্শক প্রথমবার আমাকে বড় পর্দায় দেখেন। মূলত প্রাণ সজনী ছবির ‘ডাক দিয়াছেন দয়াল আমারে’ গানটির মাধ্যমে দর্শক আমাকে গ্রহণ করেছেন এই বলতে পারি।
যুগান্তর: এরপর তো ১৯৮২ সালে ‘বড় ভালো লোক ছিল’ ছবিতে ‘হায়রে মানুষ রঙিন ফানুস দম ফুরাইলেই ঠুস’ গানটির জন্য জাতীয় চলচ্চিত্র পুরস্কার পান আপনি। নিশ্চয়ই এ পুরস্কার আপনার জীবনে প্রভাব ফেলেছে?
এন্ড্রু কিশোর: আসলে আমি তো তখন পুরস্কারের মূল্যায়ন বুঝতে শিখিনি। তাই অনুভূতিও তেমন ছিল না। তবে যখন সত্য দা (সত্য সাহা) আমাকে বললেন অল্প বয়সেই উঠে গেলে- তখন বুঝতে পারলাম এর মূল্যায়ন।’
যুগান্তর: সিনেমার গানে কণ্ঠ দেয়ার আগে আপনি আগে কোন বিষয়গুলো নিয়ে ভাবেন?
এন্ড্রু কিশোর: যখনই আমি গান গাওয়ার জন্যই গীতি কবিতাটি হাতে নিই, তা পড়েই বোঝার চেষ্টা করি অনুভূতিটা কীভাকে প্রকাশ করতে হবে। ধরন কেমন হবে সেটাও ভাবি। পাশাপাশি গানটা কোন নায়কের লিপে যাবে তার চালচলনও চিন্তা করি। সর্বোপরি গানটিকে একটি সার্বিকরূপ দেয়ার চেষ্টা করি, যাতে করে শ্রোতাদের কাছে এর যথাযথ গ্রহণযোগ্যতা থাকে। হয়তো বা এখনও চলচ্চিত্রের গানের প্রতি অদম্য ভালোবাসা আছে বলে প্লে-ব্যাক আমার পিছু ছাড়ছে না। যে কারণে এখনও গান করতে গেলে উৎসাহ পাই জীবনের সেই প্রথম দিনের মতোই।’
যুগান্তর: ছবির গান এক সময় শ্রোতারা বেশ আগ্রহ নিয়েই শুনতেন। নিজেরাও গুনগুন করে গাইতেন। কিন্তু সময়ের পরিক্রমায় ছবির গানের সেই গ্রহণযোগ্যতা দিন দিন হারিয়ে যাচ্ছে। কেন এমন হচ্ছে?
এন্ড্রু কিশোর: স্যাটেলাইট চ্যানেলের দৌরাত্ম্যে সাংস্কৃতিক অঙ্গনটা যত দ্রুতগতিতে এগিয়ে চলছে, তেমনি অনেক পিছিয়েও পড়েছে। ফলে ছবির গানের যে দর্শক ছিল তারা আর এসব গান শুনে অভ্যস্ত নন। তারা সেসব গানের তৃপ্তি খুঁজে পান অন্য কোথাও। তবে আমি মনে করি এ ধারাটা থাকবে না। খুব শিগগিরিই এ ধারার পরিবর্তন হবে এবং সে সময়টা খুব কাছে।’
যুগান্তর: এই কাছের সময়টাও তো অনেক দীর্ঘ। অনেকদিন হয়ে গেল ছবিতে ভালো কোনো গানের সন্নিবেশ ঘটছে না…
এন্ড্রু কিশোর: এখন ছবির গানের প্রতি যত্ন নেয়া শুরু হয়েছে। মনে হয় সামনে আমরা ভালো কিছু গান পাব। তবে আরও অধিক ভালো গান পাওয়ার জন্য যে বিষয়টা সবচেয়ে বেশি জরুরি, তা হল যিনি বা যারা ছবির প্রযোজক তাদের সংস্কৃতি মনোভাবাপন্ন হতে হবে। পাশাপাশি শিক্ষিত হতে হবে। কারণ তার রুচিকে প্রাধান্য দিয়েই ছবির গান তৈরি হয়। আগে প্রযোজক বা পরিচালক যেমন শিক্ষিত ছিলেন, ঠিক তেমনি ছিলেন সংস্কৃতি মনোভাবাপন্ন, যে কারণে অসংখ্য ভালো গানের সন্নিবেশ ঘটেছিল চলচ্চিত্রে।
যুগান্তর: বেশ ক’বছর ধরে শুরু হয়েছে সঙ্গীতে প্রতিভা খোঁজার পালা। এ বিষয়টি আপনি কীভাবে দেখছেন?
এন্ড্রু কিশোর: বিষয়টি সত্যিই প্রশংসার দাবি রাখে। তবে যেসব শিল্পী বেরিয়ে আসেন তাদের পুঁথিগত যে সমস্যা থাকে, তার পূর্ণতা দেয়ার চেষ্টা করা হয় না। ফলে শিল্পীদের স্থায়িত্ব থাকে না। তা ছাড়া নিজেকে বিকাশ করারও সময় পায় না তারা। তবে এর একটি প্রশংসনীয় দিক হচ্ছে ষাট, সত্তর দশকের বাংলা ছবির গানগুলোর সঙ্গে এ প্রজন্মের একটি সেতুবন্ধ করে দেয়া, যা কোটি টাকা খরচ করেও সম্ভব হতো না।
