Section 144 extended in Lucknow till Jan 5 amid Omicron scare
Lucknow police on Tuesday issued an advisory stating that Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) has been extended in the city till January 5, 2022, amid the rising concern regarding the Omicron Covid-19 variant.

As per the advisory, restrictions have been imposed in Lucknow due to upcoming celebrations of Christmas and New Year amid Omicron scare.
Meanwhile, Lucknow Police Commissioner DK Thakur was quoted by The Indian Express (IE) as saying that the people of the city must strictly abide by the Covid protocols during the upcoming festivities.
Similarly, quoting CP, law and order, Piyush Mordia, TOI reported that the orders have been passed to maintain peace and law and order in the city.
The order stated that special vigilance will be maintained in and around the Vidhan Bhavan within a radius of one-kilometre where carrying firearms and inflammable materials will be prohibited. Movement of tongas etc will also be strictly banned in the area, IE revealed in its report.
Moreover, approval of the city police and district administration has been made mandatory for hosting any event with a gathering of more than five people.
Similarly, not more than 50 people will be allowed at any religious event or marriage.
