It would be a “rare” night at Baltimore’s R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center if they didn’t treat a patient with a gunshot wound, nurse Heidi Halterman says. NBC News’ Gabe Gutierrez takes us inside the facility – the nation’s only freestanding trauma hospital – on a Saturday night. Staff detail their frustration at witnessing America’s worsening gun violence crisis up close, and describe the race to save lives.
